My all-time favorite saying used to be, “There is always room for dessert”. But when I started being more mindful about what I am putting in my body, I realized, that added sugar is one thing I should have no room for! My husband and I believe this is the worst kind of addiction one can have. This does not mean you have to deprive yourself of a sweet treat. There are plenty of ways to fulfill your sweet craving without putting your health in jeopardy.
First things first! Always look at the nutrition labels when grocery shopping. Stay far away from ingredients that have sugar, sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup, maltose, etc. Try your best to opt for whole foods, that don’t contain added sugar and ingredients we sometimes can’t even read.
Choose natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup without guilt. This doesn’t just taste great but will provide health benefits. I used to add sugar to my tea, but since I started adding honey, it tastes so much better!
Another thing my husband and I do when we crave sweets, we eat a fruit! Any fruit that you like, just go for it. At first, it might not do the trick, but with time, it will surely satisfy your craving and eventually, you won’t even crave sugar. I suggest that you keep a fruit when you are out and about. This will help you stay away from the urge to grab a sweet snack packed with added sugar.
Another big no-no are these dangerously high in sugar sodas and juices. Just make delicious fruit-infused water when you feel like having a sweet sip!
Conclusion:
Embarking on a journey to reduce your sugar intake doesn’t mean sacrificing taste or enjoyment. With these easy tips, you can make mindful choices that will lead to a healthier, happier you.
